What do the logos you see on our products and website mean?
The eye of the consumer will frequently gaze over a product’s certifications, seals, badges and logos – but the importance lies in the understanding of the message behind the seal.
Dedication to mindful buying and consumption means looking further into the icons companies use to tell us about their products.
Although most are offering a positive piece of information, some logos you see on products are weighted with more value than others. The USDA logo, for example, represents a whole movement in clean ingredients, a grueling certification process, strict certifying agents and high certification fees. If you see this logo on a product you can trust in the authority of the company’s organic claim and their hard work in obtaining the classification. This can also be said for many other logos in the industry too. Alternatively, we can compare to more lightly weighted statements shown on products (such as ‘All natural’ or ‘100% Pure’). Although agreeably a positive boasting point, this is an ambiguous statement which isn’t attached to any specific details, comprehensive definitions or verification process.
To help you get started with your consumer research we’d like to assist you in understanding Organic Fiji’s certifications and seals.
USDA Certified Organic
The USDA logo that you see on our products means that the product has undergone a verification process to certify its organic claims. Seeing the USDA logo on a product guarantees consumers that they are paying the real cost of an authentic product which has been certified organic.
The USDA logo is the most well-known organic verification stamp worldwide. When consumers see the USDA logo on body care /wellness products such as Organic Fiji’s line, they should know that the USDA’s standards are actually designed for food. There are some other companies that certify body care products specifically but these companies allow many more preservatives and harsh ingredients to pass through their rulings. Seeing the USDA logo on our products should confirm to customers that they are using a product on their skin which has been verified organic to an organic food industry’s standard. The products you put on your skin should be as important as what you eat. Your skin is the largest organ on your body and heavily absorbs skin care products into the blood stream. Be healthy from the inside out and the outside in. You can read more about the USDA’s organic standards by visiting their website.
A genetically modified organism is an animal, plant, microorganism or other type of organism which has a genetic makeup that was modified using gene modification methods and technology. This modern day scientific system generates mixtures of plant, animal, bacterial and viral genes that do not occur in nature. Many countries around the world think that GMOs are so unsafe and unstable that they have either prohibited or applied serious restrictions to the creating and selling of GMOs. “The U.S. and Canadian governments, though, have approved GMOs based on studies conducted by the same corporations that created them and profit from their sale. Sixty-four countries around the world, including Australia, Japan, and all of the countries in the European Union, require genetically modified foods to be labeled 1. While a 2015 ABC News survey found that 93% of Americans believe genetically modified foods should be labeled, GMOs are not required to be labeled in the U.S. and Canada 2” . Studies have cited many health and environmental risks with products containing GMOs, so for this reason and many others, consumers in the U.S should diligently research ingredient sources. We can assure you that you will not find any genetically modified organisms in any Organic Fiji products. USDA organic regulations prohibit any genetically modified (GMO) ingredients in a certified organic product.
All our products are 100% gluten free. If you have a gluten allergy, you won’t need to worry if you consume our organic, cold pressed coconut oil or if you use any of our tropical body products on your skin. Gluten means any gluten protein from the grain of any of the following cereals or from the grain of a hybridized strain that is created from at least one of the following cereals: barley, rye, triticale, wheat, oats except gluten-free oats or any modified gluten protein. The products you use on your skin are absorbed into your bloodstream, so if cutting gluten out is part of your lifestyle, it’s a good idea to find out about ingredients you consume both internally and externally. Organic Fiji is completely gluten free!
Our products contain absolutely no animals, animal by-products or animal substances. The term Vegan means that the product (and any ingredient sourced for the product) does not contain any fish, meat, eggs, milk, honey, bee products, any animal byproduct of any kind or any ingredient that was created with animal-derived genes. It also means that no animal testing of products or ingredients were performed by the manufacturer, the production facility or any other independent parties involved. We operate under the Fair Trade guidelines. Fair Trade is a growing movement with a goal to assist producers in developing countries to get a fair price for their products. Fair Trade encourages a reduction in poverty, supports communities and provides for the ethical treatment of workers. The movement promotes environmentally sustainable practices and so is better for the earth, minimizing environmental footprints. Artisans take pride in their work and pay attention to details, giving consumers a higher quality product. Fair trade facilities also harvest in smaller quantities, making ingredients fresher and yummier. Organic Fiji pays full market price for all its coconut oil and product ingredients. Some families have been a part of the plantation for over 100 years. Feel the love in each product’s journey when you enjoy the Organic Fiji range.
All the organic, cold pressed coconut oil that we use in our products is certified Kosher. “Kosher dietary laws are rooted in the written and oral Torah. In the post-Biblical era, the Rabbis elaborated upon these laws with explanations, details, and organization. These laws determine which foods are acceptable and conform to the Jewish Code. The word kosher is an adaptation of the Hebrew word meaning “fit” or “proper.” It refers to foodstuffs that meet the dietary requirements of Jewish Law. The barometer of kosher and non-kosher depends on two variables: the source of the ingredients and the status of the production equipment. Kosher certification, which is the guarantee that the food meets kosher requirements, revolves around these two criteria. A common misconception is that kosher reflects the conferring of a blessing on food by Rabbi. There is no truth to this whatsoever. Although Jewish ritual does require the recitation of a blessing prior to the consumption of food, there is no blessing which can make the food itself kosher or unkosher” . Organic Fiji’s coconut oil is certified Kosher by Star-K. Visit Website.

This symbol on our products means that our packaging can be recycled. Keep their life cycle going! We also use organic ‘packing peanuts’ in our shipments, these pieces of material are so natural they are actually edible! However, we wouldn’t recommend it, they’re rather tasteless. We also capture and reuse all packaging material of goods that ship to our facility. We have skylights in our warehouse and use high efficiency lighting that uses minimal power. Recycling is great for the environment, it requires far less energy than producing, it uses less natural resources and most importantly it stops waste from piling up in landfills. All Organic Fiji products are also biodegradable, meaning they degrade naturally and won’t harm the ecosystem or the environment. Read more about biodegradable products.

Organic Fiji products are biodegradable and safe to use when enjoying the beauty of nature or exploring the wilderness. Biodegradable products can be recycled by nature herself back to the Earth as part of a full circle. Whatever nature designs, nature can reuse when it is no longer needed. Mindfully choosing to use biodegradable products whilst camping, hiking, fishing, boating (or being any place with exposure to natural habitat) prevents unnecessary chemicals and materials affecting wildlife and ecology. A specific example is when we use water to wash in the wilderness. We have to think where that water is being disposed of and what animals, plants and ecosystems it could affect. This also applies to what we put on our bodies too, putting toxins on our skin and then leaving traces of it in the wild or in water can throw the ecosystem off balance. Biodegradable products enhance sustainability on the earth and create a healthy cycle in life from which we can keep benefitting from whilst preserving our Earth for generations to come.
Organic Fiji products are biodegradable and safe to use when enjoying the magic of the ocean, lakes, rivers or any body of water. Whether you swim, sail, surf or SUP, you can be assured that using Organic Fiji products in or around the water will not negatively impact your surrounding ecosystem or any marine wildlife. They even make applying your wetsuit a breeze! Many skincare products contain toxic ingredients and harmful chemicals which can run off your skin into the water and damage the health of the wildlife in that water. Organic Fiji’s organic coconut oil products are a great, ocean-friendly way to keep your skin and hair nourished without hurting the environment.
