Coconut Oil to remove makeup: Putting Your Best Face Forward-
When it comes to organic multitaskers, coconut oil is one head-to-toe beauty balm that truly delivers. Along with it’s ability to tame your tresses and moisturize your skin, it also rivals standard make up removers, breaking down even the most stubborn mascara. Let’s face it, we all love weather and sweat resistant make up, until we have to remove it. While a whole store aisle is dedicated to ensuring the optimum make up application, another aisle offers ways to remove your best look, literally and figuratively cluttering our spaces and our minds. Opting to simplify your life and bathroom countertop is a lifestyle choice for many, and for good reason. We love products that do double and triple duty to save both time and money, especially when they provide better results. Read on to learn how and why coconut oil can cleanse your skin and deliver exemplary skin nourishment that can improve your complexion and prep it for optimal make up application.
Coconut oil to remove makeup
Here’s Why: Now you might think the concept of using an oil to cleanse anything, let alone your face after you’ve been out and about all day seems counterintuitive, but, it actually works. Since your skin barrier is hydrolipidic, meaning it’s composed of oil and water, using an oil as a cleanser is the epitome of ‘like attracting like’ because an oil grabs onto all skin debris. The molecular structure and consistency of coconut oil, in particular, helps to break down the water-resistant ingredients used in eye shadow, mascara, and foundation, releasing them from your eye lids, eye lashes and skin. While traditional eye-makeup removers use water or soap based ingredients to accomplish the same thing, they can often leave the delicate skin around your eyes and sensitive skin areas dry and irritated. On-the-other-hand, water preserving coconut oil helps to soften and cleanse your skin of not only make up, it also captures external pollution, dead skin cells and serum, leaving behind a moisturized skin barrier that is bacterial resistant and hydrated.

How can you use coconut oil as a makeup remover?
Here’s how: Solid at room temperature, coconut oil liquifies around 78 degrees. To melt, simply scoop out a quarter size amount of a virgin, cold pressed coconut oil and rub it in the palm of your hand. Using your finger tips, gently apply the oil to your face with a gentle sweeping motion. Use care around the eye area, avoiding getting the oil directly in your eyes. Use small passes in areas of make-up build up and congestion to help the oil work its magic. In an outward and downward motion from base to the tip of your lashes, use the length of your index fingers to gently help loosen mascara. For eyeliner, a clean q-tip can help further clean your eye area. It’s best to use a quality oil such as Organic Fiji raw organic coconut oil to ensure superior coverage that yields skin-loving benefits. A warm, damp cotton or muslin wash cloth is excellent to continue breakdown make up and for wiping away excess oil. A repeat application may be necessary to remove all skin debris. Coconut oil is excellent for preserving your natural skin biome which also makes for a smoother, more flawless makeup application and that healthy “glass skin” look. You may even feel more confident foregoing make up all together as your complexion improves.

Make Up Brush Cleansing:
You can also use coconut oil as the first step in a double cleansing routine for your make up brushes. Begin by applying coconut oil to the bristles to break down the makeup. Using a clean soft white wash cloth or paper towel, run the brush back and forth to remove the make up. This is especially valuable if you use natural bristle make up brushes as the oil preserves the life of your brushes by moisturizing the bristles while cleaning them. Repeat this process if necessary, until the bristles run clean. Next, add water and a gentle detergent to a round dish, muddling the water with each brush to create suds that further cleansing. Run the bristles over a new clean cloth or paper towel until all the make up is dissolved. Remember to also clean the brush handle. Thoroughly rinse your brushes with warm water and remember to hang them with the bristles down to air dry and to deter any bacterial growth at the bristle base or bristle glue break down.
