Your Unique Natural Skin Care Routine
Mindful treatment of your skin will contribute to its health for years to come, heightening the ability of your largest organ to look and perform at its best. Embracing holistic self care rituals that are evocative of an ethereal island escape is what Organic Fiji is all about.
Journey along with us as we share the skin and whole body benefits of a natural skin care routine that’s infused with organic coconut oil.
Clean, pure and plant-based
The integrity of the products you use during your natural skin care routine is very important. Regularly applying toxic ingredients to your highly absorbent skin may cause allergic reactions, negative side effects or even long term health issues.
Transparency, green beauty and organic certifications are more than just words, they are part of our mission at Organic Fiji. We encourage consumer knowledge so you can wisely choose what to put on your body and in your daily routine.
Island Traditions
An island inspired natural skin care routine is one that celebrates mindfulness, minimalism, multi-functionality and mother Earth’s valuable gifts. Set your intention by paying homage to native island traditions while beautiful botanicals and earthly elements transform your daily practices into enhanced moments of self-care.
Mindful acts of self care are grounding and turn the mundane into the magical. Island style skin care rituals are a meaningful way to honor yourself, slow down and enjoy all that life has to offer. USDA Certified Organic Coconut Oil is the foundation for our clean body care products due to its nourishing and healing qualities, the island state of mind it evokes is an added benefit.
Best Practices For Your Natural Skin Care Routine
Professional tips from licensed esthetician, spa professional and clean beauty guru, Patti Coughlin.
Double Cleanse and Purify During Your Natural Skin Care Routine
“Taking the time everyday to show your skin love begins with cleansing, and doubling up this important step has purpose, especially in the evening. Along with removing the oil, environmental debris and makeup, the first cleanse preps your skin for the hydrating, soothing and treatment oriented ingredients that your secondary cleanse should provide”.
Patti’s Tip: “Sensitive skin responds well to Organic Fiji Fragrance Free options and Tea Tree Spearmint is designed to pamper and treat psoriatic skin. After cleansing, gently pat skin, preferably with a bamboo towel, and let air dry before application of oil or lotion”.
“Morning and evening cleansing can consist of an oil cleanse, soap cleanse or a combination of the two depending upon your skin type, condition and seasonal changes.
My favorites include Fragrance Free Raw Coconut Oil and Lavender Face and Body Soap. The cleansing action of the oil dissolves stubborn skin impurities and leaves skin clean, restores skin moisture and provides antioxidant protection against free radicals. In the evening, I prefer to cleanse with the soap first and the oil second during the warmer months”.
Patti’s Tip: “Oil cleansing is more than just applying oil to your skin. It applies the concept that oil attracts oil. This skin changing method of cleansing involves massaging oil into the skin, allowing it to bind to pore impurities leaving skin clean, soft and hydrated.”
Moisturize and Feed During Your Natural Skin Care Routine
“In addition to drinking plenty of water, your skin needs specific nutrients to maintain its luster. Healthy skin requires Vitamin E, lauric and caprylic acids and other skin barrier boosting nutrients.
By feeding your skin with organic, raw, cold pressed virgin coconut oil, you help maintain your skin’s natural flora or biome, making it more resilient and resistant to environmental factors and conditions. The precious high saturated fat of coconut oil locks in moisture, optimizes skin cell function and gives your complexion that covetable ‘glow from within’ look.
No matter the season, my go-to Organic Fiji Face and Body Lotion choices are Grapefruit and Pineapple Coconut. For the face, after my cleanse option, I allow about 5 minutes for the oil to penetrate, then I seal it in with Grapefruit Lotion. For the body, I love Pineapple Coconut which I apply to damp showered skin and reapply as needed especially during the dryer months”.
Patti’s Tip: “Keeping the natural biome of skin in tack while hampering acne causing bacteria is key in preventing and healing acne breakouts. While there is debate about the use of coconut oil for oily skin, holding back on oils leaves this skin type more vulnerable to dryness, irritation and can worsen skin concerns.
Using raw, organic, coconut oil has the benefits of medium chain fatty acids, vitamins and antioxidants that promote overall skin health. Organic Fiji Raw Coconut Oil for Face and Body made with lavender essential oil can help unclog pores, reduce inflammation and keep acne at bay”.
Elevate Your Natural Skin Care Routine
Exfoliate and Polish: “Your skin’s natural renewal process includes the beginning, growing cycle and end stage of millions of cells. Once spent, some of these cells are shed while many others accumulate on the outermost layer of your skin, resulting in a dull and tired surface. Exfoliation encourages skin shedding and is a vital part of achieving a healthy and vibrant complexion.
Using an exfoliant two to three days per week will encourage skin cell turnover, maintain your skin vibrance and will pave the way for optimal absorption of hydrating and moisturizing products. This skin refreshing step is also essential for a more flawless make-up application. For an uplifting experience, the Coconut Lime Whole Body Sugar Scrub leaves skin soft, refreshed and super moisturized”.
Patti’s Tip: “For those who are feeling the effects of increased hand washing at the moment, a natural hand scrub is the perfect compliment to your moisturizer and its polishing action will help with skin healing, cracked cuticles and will hydrate nails elevating home manicures.
The less cracks there are for germs to hide, the safer the surface of your hands!” Want to learn more about the benefits and ‘how-tos’ of exfoliation? Check out Organic Fiji’s guide: The Benefits of Exfoliating.
Face Masks: “Along with maintaining healthy skin, facials are also a wonderful way to relax. This skin saving regimen is recommended every 4-6 weeks and may include a facial mask or two which can be customized to your specific skin type and concerns.
Facials give pores a much needed deep cleanse, infuse nutrients and hydration back into the skin. During this past year, many people were looking for ways to bolster their DIY at-home treatments and noted the results of upping their self care routines.
Happily, discovering the benefits of facial masks made with fresh ingredients and organic coconut oil as an emollient base are now part of routine pampering along with regular professional facials.”
Patti’s Tip: “Check out the ‘Healthy Glow’ DIY face mask with organic coconut oil, manuka honey and matcha.”
Environmental: “The effect of seasonal changes on the skin have long been studied. More recent research shows that the barrier function of the skin changes greatly between summer and winter, especially when it comes to natural moisturizing factors (NMF) of the skin and skin texture.
These changes occur at the cellular level and include a breakdown of filaggrin, a protein that maintains barrier function, and the amount of transepidermal water loss (TEWL). Adapting your skin care regime to suit environmental factors further personalizes your products choices.”
Patti’s Tip: “For both face and body, apply lotion and oil to damp (not wet) skin to maximize absorption. You’ll notice the difference this practice makes in your skin texture year round, and it will also extend the life of your tan”.
Self-care :“The idea of everyday luxury needn’t be complicated or expensive. Doing daily acts of self kindness have a lasting effect on the mood you set for your day. Keeping in mind that the choices for skin and body care are seemingly boundless,
Organic Fiji reflects the beauty and simplicity of island life made accessible for all. Taking comfort in each act of maintaining, addressing and improving our health concerns provides peace-of-mind, especially during times of stress”.
Patti’s Tip : “The multi-functionality of raw coconut oil is one of the reasons many love and use it in place of a myriad of beauty and health products.”
Ethical standards: “These products are vegan and cruelty free, without phthalates, sulfates, parabens, mineral oil, synthetic dyes or fragrances and the packaging is recyclable”. You can read the full list of ingredients Organic Fiji says no to for more information.
